Spring Game Notes: First and Third Team vs Second and Fourth Team. The 2’s and 4’s will start with a 21 point lead. Head Coaches Kevin Patrick and Mike Simmonds.

This will be our last look at this Mean Green team before fall practice. Spring games are fun to watch, because we haven’t seen these guys play in a long time. Plus it gives fans a sense of what to expect next year. You just have to be careful with your expectations that you get after a spring game. Last year the defense really played well and some thought it was a sign of struggles to come for the offense. However, it just turned out that the defense was just that good. For me I’m just hoping to see how some of these guys have developed. I’m expecting the offense to have the better day, because of the offensive line depth returning. I’m hoping to see the QBs get the chance to air it out. Most importantly I’m hoping to see no injuries. I thought the most important thing coming into spring practice this year was staying healthy.

3 Things I’m Watching for

  1. Quarterback Play – No big surprise here. I’m sure I wont be the only person watching this battle closely. As of now its a 2 man race between Josh Greer and Andrew McNulty. McNulty is having another great spring and Greer has been coming on. I want to see which one of these guys can get through his progressions the fastest. I’m going to be watching how the ball comes out of their hands. I’m going to be watching pocket presence

  2. Defensive Line Depth – With the injury to Quenton Brown and the senior departures I want to see if the guys out there can play well. They are going up against a pretty good OL so it will be fun to watch

  3. Leadership – I’m going to have my eye on who is talking out there. Are there any leaders stepping forward to fill the voids left by last years Seniors.

4 Guys Who’ve Got My Attention for Saturday

  1. Erick Evans (RB) – He has been the “it” guy so far this spring

  2. John Chelf (WR) – Been solid this spring. Want to see if he can be a legitimate starter next fall.

  3. Malik Dilonga (DE) – Has impressed coaches this spring. Could fill the void of Quenton Brown after his injury.

  4. Sid Moore (DT) – Another big man who has impressed coaches so far this spring.

It should be a great event on Saturday and I’m looking forward to see all you guys and gals out there. Should be beautiful weather for watching football. No tornadoes or 4.25in hail expected. I promise!
