Just Fine

Midway through the fourth quarter, with the Mean Green down 34-14 against SMU. Mean Green head coach Seth Littrell, made a decision that could alter the next four seasons of Mean Green football.

The decision to insert dynamic freshman quarterback Mason Fine seemed to give UNT new life. Coach Littrell’s decision to start Fine the next week against Bethune-Cookman had an affect on entire team.

“It was exciting to see the new one quarterback making plays for us.” UNT sophomore Alexis Ramirez said. She continued, “He is quick and agile.”

The North Texas Mean Green beat Bethune-Cookman 41-20, and thus began an interesting season in Denton.

Mason Fine is a two-time Gatorade Oklahoma Player of the Year, with the speed and elusiveness that could add a different dimension to the Mean Green offense.

He was an important piece in the Mean Green’s win over Bethune-Cookman. But, next up for North Texas is the #23 ranked Florida Gators in the Swamp.

The Gators are primed for a chance to compete in the College Football Playoff and North Texas hopes to scratch out a second win somewhere along the 2016 schedule.

With almost no film on Fine and this North Texas team, the Mean Green have hope for an upset.

“I don’t know how we can even keep it close” UNT junior Christian Berry said. “But, if by chance we do, we would shock the world.” He added, “It would be huge for the university.”

With the season still in its infancy, the country has already seen some shocking upsets.

Add the unknowns to this Mean Green team, offensively and defensively, and we could be in for an exciting weekend. Coach Littrell must get the most out of his players if he wants North Texas to have a shot.

“It’s a huge experience for us.” UNT junior David Tuck said.  “It’s exciting to be playing in these types of games.” He added “I am interested to see the outcome with our new quarterback.”

With the insertion of Mason Fine to lead this Air Raid offense, it adds a interesting aspect to what everyone hopes will be a consistently explosive offense.

This game against the Gators will not be easy, but one where we will learn a lot about the North Texas Mean Green.
