WKU — Dribbles at the Diddle at the half

After fighting back to within five points the good guys scored only two more points for the last 3:51 and allowed 12 to WKU.

What the hell happened?

Well, that zone they put on us was working. It wasn’t particularly stifling nor was it very aggressive. Perhaps it’s passiveness influenced our own passiveness? Save for one nice pass from Johnson to Hogans mid-rotation, North Texas did a lot of standing around and soft passes. Bruce Bowen commented on the lackadaisical approach to our offense. The lowest point was probably Dominique’s airball from the top of the arc. That prompted the speedo-clad crowd to heckle the guy. Heckled by naked dudes. Not a good look.

Back to that zone. WKU was grinding out points to extend it to 45-36 with 30 seconds left when Tristan finally decided that we needed a dribble-drive to get some points. That caused an offensive foul and an alley-oop on the other end.

Tristan tried another drive, this time down the baseline and got a foul.

Then came those two misses. That makes four misses this half for our best freebie shooter. Oh yeah, and WKU cashed a three at the buzzer.

So how do we fix this?

Well, we have to attack that zone. We get stagnant and don’t run the offense with any kind of urgency. We are jogging through our cuts and are passes are soft tosses to the wing. The ball needs to move quickly to open up passing and driving lanes.

Make some free throws.
