My tailgate was cursed from the moment I realized I left my wallet back in San Antonio. I still had a good time, but it wasn’t nearly as awesome as it could be.

I’m glad I didn’t spread my curse to the game, however. The Mean Green completely dominated on defense and special teams. Offensively, the run game had its way, rushing for 7.4 yards a pop on the way to 317 on the day.

Really, the worst parts of the day were:

1) Zach Whitfield’s deflected, almost-interception was caught for a touchdown in the second half. That ruined the shut out and broke the second half no-TD streak.

2) Brelan’s touchdown punt return was called back because of a block in the back.

Apogee wasn’t quite packed, but the second largest crowd ever — 26k + — showed up to cheer the team. The homecoming crowd was loud and involved and the only reason it thinned out later was because it was getting cold and the drama was long over.

In short, this was an amazing day. It was great to see old friends, make new ones and watch the best North Texas football team in a decade.

More from the game later but right now I must hang with friends.

Go Mean Green
