Losing sucks but losing to UTSA just feels extra gross. They’re like a weird fungal infection that won’t go away. I want us to grab TX State and go to the Pac-whatever and never play UTSA in anything ever again
Am (at least still) one of the lone voices in opposition to the philia on that Forum-that-shall-not-be-named over joining a Pac-whatever amalgamation of the so-called "G5" and so-called "P5", for a variety of reasons, but spent hours trying to type, and then post, most of them in this reply, but substack said the comment reply was too long, so, am just going to forego parceling it out in bits and just leave muh opinion as it is, unexpanded upon (plus it's dinnertime anyways). Suffice to say, am of the mindset of wanting to get the "W" back, and then some, so, am against running away from UTSA, the closest thing to a "rival" UNT has since SMU wants nothing to do with such a concept.
That loss had me all in my feelings this morning when I wrote my initial comment.
UTSA is an odd thing. I don’t care so much when we win, that just seems like it’s as it should be, but I HATE losing to them.
As far as Pac-X mania goes, I’ve had this idle thought for a long time now that it would be interesting to gather up all the best non-power conference basketball schools that have FBS football and see what it looks like. If you added us and Memphis to the Pac-X, that’s pretty close to that idea. Is it a good idea? Who knows!
Can understand the idea and the one Twitter-posted idea of having the new-PAC in two divisions, with UNT in a more regional division that goes no further than Utah, and am somewhat intrigued by it, but still, at least as of now and the past couple of years, firmly-entrenched in the "stay-in-The-American" camp (should whatever passes for "The Big 12" and/or ACC not care to make a call-up or two). Population, money, TV, power, stability and resources are all concentrated on the East Coast, thus, it is there this fan thinks UNT should try to make its hay, as it were, without going on for two-pages-worth as attempted, and failed, earlier today. Who is to say Gonzaga won't bail for another conference, since The Big 10 and ACC are already on the Pacific Coast now, anyways? Sports is the front-porch and football is still king/the front-lawn of the front-yard. Even should Memphis and/or Tulane bolt for the ACC (am skeptical the ACC would take UTSA and/or USF in-comparison), the top call-ups to backfill a new-American wouldn't be too bad of replacements, should at least one of them be, say, Liberty, who has anchored CUSA well-enough and it'd present an opportunity to get a "W" back for UNT from them!
