Oooooohhh man that was a close one. It is hard to be proud of losses and moral victories are really just pretty losses but given the 20-point line and the different paths these teams have taken since last playing in 2013, all signs pointed to blow out. Even after the first half of play, the stats said NT was getting smacked up and the eye-test was that NT was a couple of plays away from a closer game. Still, a fumble on the goal line from Tulane probably mean they would have had 28-first half points. It was weird, as there were signs of life from NT and also the usual symptoms of a 3-3 team. New to the equation was the struggling offense. Tulane boasts a good defense so it wasn’t surprising that NT wasn’t able to get down the field with ease.
All that said and done, in the second half the squad came out and put up 28-straight points on Tulane. The Green Wave countered with 7 points in that comeback before the fourth quarter where they drove the field and got the go-ahead points, but NT had stopped them twice and put up a fight on the last TD.
The real coaching move was the on-side kick —hell of a call, great execution.
