Beat Army 27-10. They ran a lot and my DE was injured. Not a lot of drama here. Also
to be fair I was distracted as I was also reading about the wildfires in LA
Beat Temple 35-7. Had a big lead but the backups allowed a score. Had some “forced it interceptions”. Dominated the game. New, tweaked offense is clicking.
Just like that, we are Top 25 in the CFP now ranked 20th. We are also ranked in the top 20 in the coaches/media polls also. A quick look at my numbers shows a team that’s top 5 on total yards, top three in passing, bottom three in rushing. My defense is ranked first in total yards, but my turnover disparity is ridiculous. Got to stop throwing interceptions.
We are guaranteed a slot in the AAC title game heading into this ECU game.
Temple was not good in terms of ratings — it was like 80 | 76 | 78 or something. They are second in the league however. ECU is very good in ratings (similar to my squad) but a bad record. So it goes. Won 27-24 thanks to a miracle drive. They did that thing where they broke a bunch of tackles and I had a late turnover they scored on.
They took the lead with a minute left but I drove down (clutch catches) and score with 6 seconds left on third and goal from the one. 3 sacks for my transfer RE. Oh yeah my linebacker had a clutch interception spying the QB. It was such a weird game where I was never really in danger but also could have easily lost.
I mean, I was walking up and down the field, boys.
This locked up the 1st seed in the title game. a rematch w Temple.
There isn’t much to write about here, as I whooped them 42-7. It was another dog walking. Old fake Cash had five through the air and one on the ground.
In all of this, I bounced back from a terrible start. Fixed my offense, and my defense. Some WR from ND won the Heisman with just 1156 and 16 TDs? The runner up was the QB from Arkansas who had 47 through the air. Come on, y’all. My LOLB Alvarez won the best defensive player award with his 11 sacks and 26 TFLs. Also got the best linebacker award as well even though he primarily played as a right rush end.
Uphoff, my SS finished 5th in best DB (Thorpe award), Atkins (the transfer DE) finishes top 4 in Lombardi (DL), and third in the best DE.
My reward for all of this is the First Responder Bowl vs JMU. Middle Tennessee finished 7th in the nation and grabs a playoff spot — and a bye!. I finish 17th in the CFP standings and if it weren’t for that weird 0-4 start I would be there. Such is life. The lesson? Don’t play this game while sitting with one’s 11-month old. Then again, if you are my age there isn’t some other time to do this kind of thing.
Miami wants me as the OC, Texas and Tennessee as the DC, and Wisconsin as the OC. So weird, this game.
NEXT UP JMU and the Offseason.
