There are no easy games in league play. There are some with more room for error than others, and this was one of those types. ECU is a nice squad, but doesn’t have ridiculous talent or chemistry or anything along those lines. Throughout the first half the Good Guys controlled the game and enforced the Ross Hodge Style: slow pace, tough defense.
Jason Edwards slipped his way hither and thither, getting tough layups and creating open looks for his teammates in the first half. He finished with 20, and given that NT only scored 60 it felt like more. That’s 1/3 of the scoring on the night. He shot his 3-ball, but this night was not about raining hellfire from long range, but about getting to the cup against their best on-ball defender. He was too quick for anyone.
ECU wrangled a comeback through long-range bombs. RJ Felton went 4/10 from beyond the arc but they were way beyond the arc. For a brief moment, ECU led again for the first time since the first half. A 12-2 run to start the second half (no doubt fueled by a fiery talk from the head coach that would eventually cut his hand in the postgame) brought ECU back and the teams stayed close to the very end.
