UPDATE 1.6.18

Tyree Thompson decommitted from NT this evening. See above tweet. There was some concern that he would flip with this Vanderbilt visit coming up. It turns out that was well-founded concern.

Tyree Thompson committed recently on twitter (above). He has the prototypical size of a linebacker and his tape shows an ability to read and react — to get to the QB or RB after diagnosing the play. He’s averaged about 3-5 tackles and one TFL per game, which is not terrible all things considered.

Vanderbilt recently invited him for a visit on the 12th so we will see how well his commitment holds up through that. He’s been tweeting about how much he likes the uniforms and KC Obi, former NT player, has been talking with him.

All in all this looks like a good depth pickup. NT absolutely needs linebackers for depth and just as an improvement. His film and his recruiting offers (Vandy) suggest he is a smart kid that will make sure he knows where to be and make plays with his head. That will come in handy against an FAU or other squad that likes to get cute with formations.

He’s currently unrated but I bet if Vandy would have landed him he would have a star or two by his name. Chris Smith of Vandy247 has a post about his initial offer from Vandy coach Derek Mason. There he said “Vandy is definitely in the lead for me” but things obviously changed over the New Year holiday.
