How MTSU will Win
MTSU is a better team than NT and is at home. They aren’t tremendously better, but significantly so. The Blue Raiders simply need to move the ball with Brent Stockstill, coaches son, and not hurt themselves by trying to blow the Mean Green off the field. The run game should have some room to run and the defense shouldn’t have too much trouble handling North Texas’ offense.
How North Texas will Win
North Texas will win if they can get some consistent passing from DaMarcus Smith. The run game has shown some ability, and will be very dangerous if the linebackers have to worry about Smith hitting streaking receivers over their head as they stare into the backfield. The slow pace shown last week against Tennessee frustrated the Vols and forced Dobbs into some poor throws as he was trying to spark his offense. A similar strategy could force young Stockstill into similar mistakes, as he doesn’t have nearly as strong a run game as the Vols did. While the run defense still allowed 237 yards to Tennessee, it was only on 4.94 ypc which was an improvement from LaTech’s scorching 7.61 the previous week.
