So much has been made of the offensive woes for the Mean Green, but what about the defense? Well they’ve struggled to string together stops. Of course the offense hasn’t helped with their quick 3-and-out, but the defense has to play better.
Here is a look at the offenses that North Texas has to face in their upcoming games.
Future Opponents Offensive Ranks
Team | Points Per Game | Rank | Yards Per Game | Rank |
---|---|---|---|---|
Southern Miss | 33 | 40 | 497.7 | 19 |
Portland St | 29.7 | 36 | 339 | 75 |
Western Kentucky | 36.5 | 24 | 493 | 20 |
Marshall | 29 | 56 | 312 | 109 |
UTSA | 20 | 97 | 383 | 70 |
Louisiana Tech | 32.7 | 44 | 501 | 17 |
Tennessee | 36.7 | 22 | 425 | 44 |
Middle Tennessee | 36 | 29 | 446 | 33 |
UTEP | 27.7 | 64 | 386.7 | 67 |
AVERAGES | 31 | 46th | 420 | 50th |
It looks like a daunting task for a defense that is giving up 44 points a game and 498 yards of offense a game. The defense also cannot count on the offense to put up significant points or eat up yardage to help.
North Texas is only averaging 18 points a game. They’ve only scored over 30 once with McNulty at QB. If the offense doesn’t start to put up a ton of points and stay on the field longer it may turn into a long year for the North Texas defense.
There is still hope that the Mean Green defense can turn it around. Cosh is teaching a new defense. It does take time to adjust to play calling with a new defensive coordinator. Chris Cosh is also learning how his players react in game situations. Its going to take some time for this unit to gel. They have a lot of new and young pieces. There is a good chance that they get better. They better or its going to be a disastrous year.
