2017 New Orleans Bowl Halftime: Troy 22 NT 20

So lets talk about htat first half, folks. North Texas came out in the way they sometimes do and literally fumbled the first chance to score away. Mason Fine bobbled the ball and Troy pounced on it just about 10 yards from paydirt.

They would score and NT was down 15-0. I don’t know exacly what Troy Head Coach Neal Brown’s thinking was on that conversion attempt but it worked: it got NT to chase points early.

After Colton McDonald’s momentum-changing 55-yard scoop and score Seth Littrell tried the 2-point conversion and failed. NT was down 22-13.

Then a miracle happened: North Texas’ defense became the version that can and does stop the run. Josh Wheeler had a couple of huge tackles in the next couple of series and Troy began to look beatable. Brandon Silvers, who completed his first 10-plus passes threw an interception.

Eventually Mason Fine found Mike Lawrence for six and NT is back in this. Chasing points there has changed the game but that may not matter. NT is down 2 at the half after managing only -3 rushing yards in the first quarter. This is a good thing.
