Soccer 5-0: Beat Vandy 1-0 on Molly Grisham Wonder Goal

North Texas Soccer took on Vanderbilt on Sunday in a hard-fought game that was won thanks to Molly Grisham’s wonder-strike. Unlike Friday, Mean Green All Access has this one available so I’ll save you a lot of reading so you can watch the highlights here.

In case you didn’t click the video (I kind of hate videos, too) here it is in gif form, the best format on the internet.

I can watch this all day

North Texas moves to 5-0 on the season.

Vandy fought hard and nearly had an equalizer (or more!) on the counter a few times. The North Texas back line and defensive midfield, led by Jackie Moreau, was solid. They broke up any build-up Vanderbilt attempted throughout the game. At the risk of sounding amazingly clichéd, it always looked like a match that would be decided by a set piece.

It was so very hot as the match crept toward the finish (and the three o’clock hour) but not nearly as hot as the football game Sunday. Vanderbilt threw everything forward as the Mean Green cleared their lines. Vandy was desperate and managed to create a few dangerous chances that they fired wide or high. The ones they managed to put on frame were redirected away by Jackie Kerestine. Kerestine had a scare with 46 seconds left when she went down following a collision during a corner kick. She shook it off and finished it out, however.

It wasn’t the goal-fest that Friday’s match vs Abilene Christian was, nor did North Texas have the number of shots and possession but given the time, the heat, and the opponent, it was a great run out. If you haven’t seen this team play, you are doing yourself a disservice. Skip the All Access and make it out in person. Bring a hat. And sunscreen. It’s hot.

Next Up: Oklahoma on Friday 7pm at home.
